Arsonist Torches Sarah Church, Powell Torches Sarah
Comes the news that an arsonist has caused $1 million worth of damage to Sarah Palin’s church.
Just a couple days after Colin Powell once again torched the Saracuda over her small-town values.
I’m not sure which event was more destructive.
Yes, it’s expensive to rebuild a church, but it’s relatively straightforward. Draw up the plans, get the materials, hammer the boards, lay the brick, replace the drywall, paint and redecorate. The money will be raised (Michelle Malkin is already at it) and the work will be done.
Political reputations are harder to restore, especially when attacks are continuing to come from your own ranks. Ask Dan Quayle.
Said Powell in a CNN interview with Fareed Zakaria which was aired today, but which had most of its news value when excerpts were released earlier in the week:
____________________________________________________________________________
Gov. Palin, to some extent, pushed the party more to the right, and I think she had something of a polarizing effect when she talked about how small town values are good. Well, most of us don’t live in small towns. And I was raised in the South Bronx, and there’s nothing wrong with my value system from the South Bronx.
____________________________________________________________________________
Wrong, General. The party was already on what corprocrat liberal Republicans like you would call “the right” — but most of us would call mainstream America — when Sarah Palin arrived on the scene and gave us a figure around whom to coalesce. If John McCain had been half as successful in articulating our values as she was — and Sleek Barry was, for that matter — HE would be measuring the drapes for the Oval Office, and you would be ruing the day you crossed the GOP for your anticipated 30 pieces of Democratic silver.
Now, however, you are in a position to sneer down at Sarah Palin and her “small-town values” and claim that she is “polarizing.” What was truly polarizing was the condescending portrayal of an accomplished, intelligent, articulate born leader onto which you piled in clamboring aboard the Obandwagon, and which you have continued with your pontification on the stuffed-shirt, self-important Mr. Zakaria’s program.
The most offensive part of the video excerpts I have seen was Mr. Zakaria’s characterization of the GOP as “your party.” If it was ever your party, General Powell — and I’m not sure at this point if it was ever anything more than a vehicle for your ambitions — it isn’t anymore. You traded any pretense to membership when you deserted — and yes, that’s the term I intended to use — a long-time friend, political ally and strategic soulmate for a political neophyte who during his Senate career and the campaign opposed everything you ever stood for.
Enjoy your life on the pedestal, General. When you find that your party has no more room for you, and the Obamites never really had any use for you other than a two-day weekend story providing another small stepping stone to the White House, you’ll discover that it really can be lonely at the top.
Meanwhile, the rest of us will be down here in the trenches, working, brick-by-brick, to restore the reputation of a woman with a real, actual political future ahead of her.
